Harry Potter and the Biggest Mistakes

Don't get me wrong, I loved the Deathly Hallows Part 2 movie. I only saw it twice, yet I'm pretty sure I had every line memorized. It made me cry, it made me laugh when nobody else in the movie theater was laughing, it made me clap, and it made me scream. But, like all other movies that have been converted from books, it was lacking some things. And I felt that they missed out on things more in this movie than in the other Harry Potters.

So, here is my list of the three things that they should have included, but didn't from least important, to most important.

3. Teddy Lupin
Yes, the third most important thing was actually a person. From what I remember, they never even mentioned that Tonks was pregnant. Perhaps this wasn't actually a very important part of the books and it wasn't necessary, but I think that Teddy shapes Harry's future. After the Battle of Hogwarts, he may not have been married and he may not have had kids yet, but he did have an orphaned godson that he had to take care of.

Plus, I love Teddy and they missed out on the "Teddy's here! And he's snogging Victoire! Our Victoire!" line.

2. Fred's Death... the Right Way
I suppose it was impossible to put in Fred Weasley's death the way they did it in the books because the movies dropped the Percy storyline and a huge part of what made Fred's death so important was Percy.

I think that Fred's death would have made the movie better because that is one of the most emotional moments to me. All along, Fred has been a lighter character. He's made us laugh in the middle of a war. The loss of Fred was... horrible. But just showing his dead body didn't have nearly as much of an impact on the audience as showing him dying, dying while making a joke no less, would have had.

1. The Holly Wand with a Phoenix Feather
In DH part 1, Harry's wand broke. They got that part. But they missed something very important. He never fixed his wand. At the end, before he breaks the Elder Wand, Harry is supposed to fix his wand.

Not having this not only upsets me because Harry doesn't have his wand now, but it actually confuses me. How long would it have taken for Harry to have pulled his wand out of a pocket somewhere, said a quick line or two about how it had broken, and then fixed it? It's not as though this is a major plotline that adds ten minutes to the movie! It would have taken less than a minute to add that in. So why not put it in?

Harry fixing his wand, to me, almost says that everything's going to be okay. He has his wand. Things are still the same way they were before the Battle of Hogwarts, minus the loss of some of our favorite characters and the near destruction of Hogwarts. To me, it's almost like the last line. "All was well." His wand was fixed.

Good luck getting a new wand, Harry. Although, I suppose he'd be one of the first on Ollivander's list.

Of course, there were also other things that they didn't add, things like Dumbledore's complete backstory. But I understand why they couldn't include that. It would have added a significant amount of time to the movie. (That doesn't stop me from wishing they'd included it.) And I'd liked it if they'd spent a few more minutes in the Pensieve looking through Snape's memories. They missed a couple great scenes in there.

But other than that, I think they did a pretty great job on the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Why I'm Qualified to Write this Blog

Welcome Muggles and Wizards alike!

I’m a Muggle. We can start at that.

I even own a shirt that declares this.

I’m also obsessed with Harry Potter and I have been since I read the first book in the first grade. I’ve loved every book and every movie.

(I even write Harry Potter fanfic, but I don’t own Harry Potter.)

I have read the books more times than I can count.

I’m reading the books to my younger brother and sister right now. Does that count as a good reason?

I’m a novelist and therefore can look at the books from a writer’s POV.

I have a strong desire to share my opinions on what I love about Harry Potter, what annoys me about Harry Potter, what annoys me about non-Harry Potter fans, and also I want to find out what other people’s opinions on these same topics are.

So… that’s why I’m qualified. Were those good reasons for you?

Although I may be a highly informed, though, I am not a wizard nor am I J.K. Rowling so I don’t know everything about Harry Potter. If you are a wizard or J.K. Rowling, feel free to correct me on any of the matters that I discuss.
